Welcome to the Zonta Club of the Monterey Area Website!Zonta International - Advancing the Status of Women WorldwideAs one of the first service organizations to understand women's unique role in shaping women's lives in the 20th century, Zonta International began working for economic, social, educational, legal, health and political equality for women in Buffalo, New York, in 1919. It has grown to 1,238 clubs in 68 countries and geographic areas. The Zonta Club of Monterey Area was chartered in 2001 and participates in local and international service projects that strengthen and improve the well being of women and address the mission of Zonta International. Monterey Zontians are community leaders consisting of a cross-section of educators, entrepreneurs, executives, professionals and more. One-third of the funds raised by the Monterey club are used to support international programs and projects that span the globe. Zonta International Strategies to Eradicate Violence Against Women (ZISVAW) awards grants to United Nations agencies and internationally recognized Non-Governmental Organizations for innovative prevention and advocacy projects that seek to change personal and/or political knowledge, attitudes and behaviors that contribute to gender-based violence. Remaining funds support the needs of Monterey County women and children. We provide volunteer time and financial support for Girls, Inc. and CASA, and our "Done in a Day" Community Service Projects benefit the YWCA's Lawson House and other local organizations.
